隋开皇十八年（598年）以高城县改名。⑴治所即今河北藁城县驻地。属廉州。大业二年（606年）属赵州，次年属赵郡。⑵义宁元年（617年）属巨鹿郡。唐武德元年（618年）属廉州。贞观元年属恒州。元和十五年（820年）属镇州。⑶五代后唐初属真定府。后晋天福七年（942年）属恒州。⑷后汉复属镇州。⑸约北宋天圣前后属真定府。⑹金天会七年（1129年）属真定府。⑺蒙古太宗六年（1234年）升为永安州。⑻
