隋开皇六年（586年）置。⑴治所在今河北藁城县驻地西北九门村。⑵属恒州、恒山郡。大业九年（613年）属高阳郡。⑶隋义宁元年（617年）为九门郡治。唐武德元年（618年）为观州治。武德五年（622年）属恒州，天宝元年（742年）起属恒山郡、平山郡、恒州、镇州。⑷五代后唐初属真定府。⑸北宋开宝六年（973）废，地入藁城县。⑹
