隋开皇六年（586年）以平恩县改名。因县西近洺河，故名。⑴治所在河北省曲周县驻地东南西呈孟乡。⑵属洺州、武安郡。唐会昌三年（843年）并入曲周县。⑶

⑴《元和郡县图志》卷15《河东道四》：“洺水县，……本汉斥漳县，属广平国。漳水经其城，其地斥卤，故曰斥漳。隋开皇六年，以县西近洺河，改为洺水，属洺州。”（中华书局，第431页）
