唐武德五年（622年）置，为南义州治；贞观元年（627年）州废，改属南建州；二年复为义州治；五年州废又改属南建州；六年复为义州治；天宝元年（742年）为连城郡治（1）。治所即今广西岑溪县东新圩镇（2）。至德二年（757年），更名岑溪县（3）。

注：
（1）《唐书》卷43上·地理7上·义州连城郡：“本南义州，武德五年以永熙郡之永业县地置。贞观元年州废，以县隶南建州。二年复置，五年又废，以县隶南建州。六年复置，后第名义州。县三：岑溪，本龙城，武德五年置，并置义安、义城二县。至德中更龙城曰岑溪。其后又省义城；永业，本义安，至德中更名；连城，武德五年析泷州之正义置。”（中华书局，1975年，5册，1111页）。
（2）《嘉庆一统志》卷449·梧州府·古迹·龙城废县：“在岑溪县东二十里。宋初迁县于今治。”（《四部丛刊续编》，商务印书馆，1934年，175册）。据此定点于今岑溪县东新圩镇。
