唐武德六年（623年），以义熙县更名，为融州治（1）。治所即今广西融水县（2）。宋因之（3）。元至元十六年（1279年）为融州路治，二十二年（1285年）复为融州治（4）。明洪武二年（1369年）十月，省入柳州府融州（5）。

注：
（1）《旧唐书》卷41·地理4·融州：“隋始安郡之义熙县。武德四年，平萧铣置融州，复开皇旧名，领义熙、临牂、黄水、安修四县。六年，改义熙为融水。贞观十三年省安修入临牂。天宝元年改为融水郡，乾元元年复为融州。”州治融水县。（中华书局，1975年，5册，1736页）。
（2）《嘉庆一统志》卷463·柳州府·古迹·融水废县：“在融县西南，齐置齐熙县，兼置齐熙郡治此，隋改县为义熙，唐复改为融水，为融州治，明初省入融州…。旧志，县东临融水，西近香山，南达真仙岩，北倚云际山。唐始筑州城，宋大观初，砌外城，周九里。元至正中毁，缩入南城修筑，即今治。”（《四部丛刊续编》，商务印书馆，1934年，173册）。清融县即今广西融水县。作同今融水县处理。
