明洪武二年（1369年）十月置，属融州，十年（1377年）五月属柳州府（1）。治所即今广西罗城县（2）。清因之（3）。1912年废府留县（4）。

（2）《嘉庆一统志》卷463·柳州府·古迹·罗城旧县：“在今县北。…旧志，旧县治在西罗乡，洪武三年迁今治。”（《四部丛刊续编》，商务印书馆，1934年，173册）。《明史》卷45·地理6·柳州府·罗城县：“洪武二年十月以罗城乡置，属融州，十年五月来属。”（中华书局，1974年，4册，1155页）。姑作在今罗城县内迁徙。
