隋大业三年（607年），改渝州为巴郡，辖县三：巴县、江津县、涪陵县。唐武德元年改为渝州①。
①《太平寰宇记》卷136《山南西道》渝州条：“周闵帝元年改巴州为楚州，仍领巴郡。隋开皇元年改楚州为渝州，三年罢郡，所领县属州。大业三年罢州，复为巴郡。唐武徳九年置渝州，因开皇旧名，领巴、江津、涪陵三县，其年以涪陵属涪州。三年置万春县，五年改万春为万寿县。贞观十三年以废霸州之南平县来属。天宝元年改为南平郡。乾元元年复为渝州”。段案：武德九年应为武德元年。",
