隋开皇三年（583年），废平羌郡，嘉州辖县三：峨眉县（开皇九年（589年）改为青衣县。开皇十年（590年）改为龙游县）、平羌县、夹江县。开皇十三年又置峨眉县。大业二年（606年）改州为眉州①。
①《隋书》卷29《地理上》眉山郡条：“西魏曰眉州。后周曰青州，后又曰嘉州。大业二年又改曰眉州……龙游，后周置，曰峨眉，及置平羌郡。开皇初郡废。九年改县为青衣。平陈日，龙见水，随军而进，十年改名焉……夹江，开皇三年置。峨眉，开皇十三年置”，第827页。《太平寰宇记》卷74《剑南西道》眉州条：“夹江县，西北七十五里，旧十二乡，今五乡。本汉南安县地，即封宣虎侯之地。隋开皇十二年分龙游、平羗二县置于泾上，临江水，故号夹江，属嘉州。唐武徳元年移就今理，在泾水之东，平羗水西南，对峩眉，北连象耳”。此处夹江县作开皇三年置。",
