蒙古窝阔台汗六年（1234年）灭金，勣州更名为阳城县，仍属泽州。治所仍在今阳城县城①。明因之②。清初承明制，隶泽州，清雍正六年（1728年）升泽州为府，属泽州府③。1912年，泽州府废，改属山西省。

泽州，下。“元初置司候司及领晋城、高平、阳城、沁水、端氏、陵川六县。至元三年，省司候司、陵川县入晋城，省端氏入沁水。后复置陵川。领五县：晋城，下。高平，下。阳城，下。沁水，下。陵川。下。”

乾隆《阳城县志》卷一《建置》
金，“阳城县，宣宗元光二年升州为节镇，军曰：忠昌。寻又升县为勣州，仍属忠昌军，及灭于元而州废。”

案：勣州改名阳城县的确切年代已无考，只笼统载为“元仍为阳城县”。据《元史》载，蒙古窝阔台汗六年（1234年），金亡，山西全境已被金占领，因确定“元仍为阳城县”的年代为1234年。
