金元光二年（1223年）阳城县升为勣州，属河东南路。治所仍在今阳城县城①。蒙古窝阔台汗六年（1234年）灭金，更名为阳城县②。

光绪《山西通志》卷二十五，《府州厅县考》：
“阳城县……金元光二年，升勣州。元仍为阳城县。”

乾隆《阳城县志》卷一《建置》
金，“阳城县，河东南路泽州领之。宣宗元光二年升州为节镇，军曰：忠昌。寻又升县为勣州，仍属忠昌军，及灭于元而州废。”

案：勣州更名阳城县的确切年代已无考，只笼统载为“元仍为阳城县”。据《元史》载，蒙古窝阔台汗六年（1234年），金亡，山西全境已被金占领，因确定“元仍为阳城县”的年代为1234年。",
