北齐天统五年（569年），平高县更名高平县①。北周建德七年（578年），属泽州高平郡②。大业三年（607年），属长平郡③。唐武德元年（618年），为盖州治所。武德六年（623年），属盖州。唐贞观元年（627年），属泽州。天宝元年（742年），属高平郡。乾元元年（758年），属泽州④。宋因之⑤。金天会六年（1128年），属南泽州，天德三年（1151年），属泽州⑥。元、明因之⑦。清雍正六年（1728年），属泽州府⑧。1912年废府，高平县属山西省。

高平县，“本汉泫氏县，属上党郡，在泫水之上故以为名。后汉改为玄氏，属建兴郡。高齐文宣帝省玄氏县，自长平高城移高平县理之，仍改高平县，属高都郡。”

高平县，“本汉泫氏县，属上党郡。西北在泫水之侧故名之《竹书纪年》谓：梁惠王九年晋取泫氏县即此也。汉为县属上党郡。后魏改泫为元氏，属建兴郡。庄帝永安二年属长平郡。高齐天保元年省玄氏县，自长平高城移理之，仍改高平县，属高都郡。”

高平县：在州城北八十三里。本战国赵长平地，汉置泫氏县，属上党郡，后魏改元氏，属建兴郡。后属长平郡。北齐省元氏，移治高平城，改高平县属高都郡。

泽州：“秦并天下，今州即上党郡地。汉为上党郡高都县之地也。后魏道武帝置建兴郡，孝庄帝改置建州，周改建州为泽州。盖取濩泽为名也。”

按：《隋书?地理志》载，隋大业三年（607年），改州为郡，因此“大业初置长平郡”，当在607年。
