隋开皇十年（590）受阳县更名文水县，属太原郡。治所在今文水县东旧城庄。唐武德三年（620）隶汾州，六年（623）属并州，七年（624）又隶汾州，贞观元年（627）复旧。唐天授元年（690）（一说二年）更名为武兴①②③④⑤⑥。
