北魏永兴二年（533）置秀容县，属秀容郡。治所在今岚县古城村。隋开皇十年（590）治所迁移至今忻州市忻府区西北25公里奇村与辛庄之间①②③。

①《元和郡县图志?河东道三》秀容县：“本汉阳曲县地，属太原郡。……隋开皇十八年于此置忻州，又于今县西北五十里秀容故城，移后魏明元所置秀容县于今理，属忻州，国朝因之。”
