刘玄更始元年（23年），遮害县复名为中陵县，属定襄郡①。治所仍在今朔州市右玉县威远镇西南约2.5千米。东汉建安十八年（213年）废②。

（地皇）四年正月，破王莽前队大夫甄阜、属正梁丘赐，斩之，号圣公为更始将军。众虽多而无所统一，诸将遂共议立更始为天子。……于是大赦天下，建元曰更始元年。……是时海内豪桀翕然响应，皆杀其牧守，自称将军，用汉年号，以待诏命，旬月之闲，遍于天下。……九月，东海人公宾就斩王莽于渐台，收玺绶，传首诣宛。

据《后汉书?刘玄刘盆子列传》所载，更始元年九月，王莽败亡，时天下当全复汉旧名。因确定善无县恢复年代为刘玄更始元年（23年）。
《后汉书志》第二十三?郡国五
定襄郡，“高帝置”。五城：善无、桐过、武成、骆、中陵。
中陵， “故属雁门”。

中陵废县，“在平鲁县北。汉置，属雁门郡，后汉属定襄郡，建安末省。”

（中陵川水）水出中陵县西南山下，北俗谓之大浴真山，水亦取名焉。东北流，迳中陵县故城东北，俗谓之北右突城，王莽之遮害也。《十三州志》曰：善无县南七十五里，有中陵县，世祖建武二十五年置。
赵云：班《志》已有中陵县，不应置自光武也。司马彪《郡国志》，定襄郡中陵，故属雁门，以言改隶则可耳。会贞按：建安末废，在今平鲁县北。

按：中陵废省无确年，史志只言汉末。据《晋书?地理志》载：并州，“灵帝末，羌胡大扰，定襄、云中、五原、朔方、上郡等五郡并流徙分散。建安十八年，省入冀州。二十年，始集塞下荒地立新兴郡，后又分上党立乐平郡。魏黄初元年，复置并州，自陉岭以北并弃之，至晋因而不改。”据此确定该县废于建安十八年。",
