明洪武二年（1369年），善阳县省入朔州⑤，属大同府。清雍正三年（1727年）朔州降为散州不领县，隶朔平府①，仍治今朔州市朔城区。民国元年更名朔县。

朔平府：清初为右玉、左云、平鲁三卫。雍正三年，于右玉卫置府，并改三卫为县，属雁平道。领州一，县三。右玉、朔州、左云、平鲁。
朔州，“冲，繁，难。府东南二百四十里。明属大同府。雍正三年来隶。嘉庆元年，所领马邑省入为乡”。
