蒙古窝阔台汉六年（1234年），臬州更名为乐平县，属平定州①。治所仍在今昔阳县城。蒙古至元二年（1265年），省入平定州②。

雍正《山西通志》卷五《沿革三》?平定州
乐平县，“金仍隶平定州。兴定四年正月升为臯州，寻废州，隶平定州”。
光绪《山西通志》卷二十五《府州厅县考三》
平定州，“（兴定）四年，升乐平为臬州。元平定州隶冀宁路，为下州。乐平仍为县。至元二年，与倚郭之平定县并省入州，立乐平乡巡检司。”

按：臬州改乐平县的具体年代记载，《山西通志》只说“元乐平仍为县”，据此确定山西金境被蒙古军占领的蒙古窝阔台汉六年（1234年），为恢复乐平县的年代。
