秦庄襄王三年（前247年）置，属上党郡。治今襄垣县城北关①。西汉、②。王莽新天凤元年（14年），更名上党亭县③。
注：

（庄襄王）三年，“王龁攻上党。初置太原郡。”

始皇“年十三岁，庄襄王死，政代立为秦王。当是之时，秦地已并巴、蜀、汉中，越宛有郢，置南郡矣；北收上郡以东，有河东、太原、上党郡。”

案：襄垣为战国古邑，战国三晋古币有“襄垣”布，西汉有襄垣县，故此定为秦县。其置县年代定为秦将王龁攻取上党的前247年。
