隋义宁元年（617年）置亳城县，属邵原郡。唐武德元年（618年）属邵州。武德五年（622年）省并入垣县①。治所在今山西省垣曲县南亳城村②。 

注：
①《旧唐书》卷三十九?地理志?絳州 垣，“隋县，义宁元年置邵原郡，领垣、王屋。又置清廉、亳城二县。武徳元年改为邵州。二年又置长泉县。五年废亳城”。
《新唐书》卷三十九?地理志?絳州 垣，“义宁元年以垣、王屋置邵原郡，又置清亷、亳城二县。武德元年曰邵州。二年置长泉县。是年以长泉隶怀州，后省。五年省亳城入垣”。
《山西通志》卷五沿革：“垣曲县：……义宁元年以垣、王屋置邵原郡，又置清亷、亳城二县……（武德）五年省亳城入垣”。 
②《读史方舆纪要》卷四十一?山西?绛州?垣曲县 亳城，“在县西北十五里……后周以此名县。隋义宁初，复置亳城县，属邵原郡。唐武德初，属邵州，五年省。”顾祖禹时代垣曲县治所在今山西省垣曲县古城镇，亳城在其西北。
亳城县具体位置参《山西省历史地图集》政区图组?唐  中国地图出版社P54-55，2000年。由于隋置亳城县的时间在隋末的义宁元年（617年），故本图集的隋代部分未有标识。",
