唐麟德初（664）赵城县徙治西南三十里，即今赵城镇①。唐先后属吕州、晋州。北宋熙宁五年（1072）废②③④⑤⑥⑦。

①《读史方舆纪要》故赵城：“县南三十五里。相传造父始封此，即赵简子之邑也。志云：今县东北三里有赵简子城，隋置县于此，唐麟德初徙县于今治。”

⑥《钦定四库全书?大清一统志》霍州赵城县：“在州南二十五里。东西距一百二十里，南北距二十五里，，东至岳阳县界六十里，西至隰州蒲县界六十里，南至平阳府洪洞县界二十里，北至本州界二十五里，东南至平阳府浮山县界六十里，西南至蒲县界一百三十里，东北至岳阳界四十，西北至汾州汾西县界十五里。周为赵城穆王以封造父。汉为彘县地，后汉以为永安县地。后魏隶永安郡。隋为霍邑县地，义宁元年析置赵城县，属霍山郡。唐武徳初属吕州，贞观十七年属晋州。五代因之。宋熙宁五年省入洪洞，元丰三年复置，政和四年升为庆祚军。”
