隋开皇十八年（598）改吐京县为石楼县①，属隰州，大业三年（607）属龙泉郡。治所在今石楼县。唐先后属西德州、东和州、隰州②，宋、金、元俱属隰州，明、清属汾州府③，民国迄今县名不改。
