唐武德三年（620）（一说二年）置温泉县，属北温州。治所在今交口县东北25公里温泉乡。贞观元年（627）属隰州①②③④。宋因之。金属石州，贞佑四年（1216）改属汾州。元至元三年（1266）省入孝义县⑤⑥。
