金大定八年（1168年）宣德县更名为宣宁县，属大同路大同府①。仍治今大同市新荣区拒墙堡乡三墙堡西侧。元隶大同路②。明洪武二年（1369年）省③。

注：
①③光绪《山西通志》卷二十八《府州厅县考六》?大同府 大同县，“辽开泰八年，析县西北境置德州宣德县，……金大定八年，改宣德县曰宣宁县，与大同、云中同隶大同府。至至元二年，省云中县入大同。明仍为大同府治，省宣宁县入焉。”（中华书局P2468，1990年。）
②《元史》卷五十八《志》第十?地理一 大同路，“辽为西京大同府。金改总管府。元初置警巡院。至元二十五年，改西京为大同路……。” 领司一、县五、州八。州领四县。……隶事司。县五：大同、白登、宣宁、平地、怀仁。（中华书局P1375，1976年。）
按：宣宁县废省时间不确，据《明史?地理志》载：大同府，“元大同路，属河东山西道宣慰司”。洪武二年为府。故确定宣宁县废于洪武二年（1369年）。",
