明万历四十三年（1615年）灵石县改属平阳府，自此平阳府领州六：蒲州、解州、霍州、吉州、绛州、隰州，县二十八：临汾、襄陵、洪洞、浮山、赵城、太平、岳阳、曲沃、翼城、汾西、蒲、灵石、临晋、荣河、猗氏、万泉、河津、安邑、夏、闻喜、平陆、芮城、稷山、绛、垣曲、乡宁、大宁、永和。辖区扩大，治所在今临汾市①②。

界线

其时平阳府辖境相当于今天运城地区和临汾地区的全部，以及灵石、交口二县。北界即今石楼县西南的青蒿村①。南以黄河为界②。东界即今安泽县东的良马乡③。西亦以黄河为界④。
注：
①北界：光绪《山西通志》卷二七?府州厅县考五?永和县：“县境……北至汾州府石楼县界青蒿结四十五里”（中华书局P2452，1990年）1995年山西省地图集石楼县西南有“青蒿”村，当是。
②南界：光绪《山西通志》卷二十六?府州厅县考?永济县：“县境……南至同州府华阴县界黄河岸”（ 中华书局P2364，1990年）
