蒙古太宗十三年（1241年）改隶顺天路。⑴至元十年（1273年）隶大都路。⑵至元二十三年（1286年）复属保定路。明洪武元年（1368年）州治易县并入，属保定府。⑶洪武六年（1373年）州属定兴县往属保定府。⑷领涞水一县。清雍正十一年十一月甲辰（1734年1月1日）升为直隶州。⑸

⑴《元史》卷58《地理一》：“元太宗十一年，割隶顺天府。至元十年，隶大都路。二十三年，还隶保定。”（中华书局，第5册，第1354页）
按：因顺天路（府）设置的年份定在太宗十三年，暂不采用《地理志》“太宗十一年”之说。
