蒙古宪宗二年（1252年）徙治洺水县（今河北威县驻地洺州镇）。⑴属洺磁路。至元十五年（1278年）属广平路。辖洺水、井陉二县。明洪武二年四月甲戌（1369年5月16日）降为县。⑵

一说至元初迁治。嘉靖《广平府志》卷四：“威县治在城西北隅。至元初徙威州治于此。至正十四年知州王伯大重修，刘谦记曰：威州辖县二，曰洺水，曰井陉。洺水，《禹贡》冀州之域，适祖乙迁邢，即此地也。秦汉以降，或为郡，或为县，废置不常。金号洺水，国朝因之。自前至元初，州治由井陉徙于此，卜厅事于乾维之地而创之，属县如故。迨至正庚寅，诏汰冗官，洺水革去，州于是乎亲民。……”（《天一阁藏明代方志选刊》本，第5册）
