南北朝后齐省樊舆、北新城、清苑、乐乡入永宁县，并改永宁县为乐乡县。⑴治所即今河北保定市城区。⑵隋属瀛州。开皇十八年（598年）改名清苑县。

⑵嘉庆《清一统志》卷12《保定府一》：“北齐俱省，改清苑曰乐乡。隋开皇十八年又改曰清苑，属河间郡。唐武德四年改属满州，贞观七年属瀛州，景云二年改属莫州。五代晋初，入辽，置泰州。开运二年克复，仍废为清苑县。宋建隆元年，于县置保塞军。太平兴国六年，改军置保州，仍改县曰保塞，为州治。金大定十六年复曰清苑。元为保定路治。明为保定府治。本朝因之。”（第6册，第2页）
