西汉高帝八年（前199年）以宋子县为宋子侯国。⑴治所在今河北赵县东北。⑵属巨鹿郡。景帝中二年（前148年）国除，⑶仍为县。

⑵《太平寰宇记》卷60：平棘县，“宋子故城，汉宋子县也。《晋书》：卫恒《四体书势》云：巨鹿宋子有耿球碑，是袁术所立，师宜官书。”（中华书局，第3册，第1232页）
《舆地广记》卷12：“故宋子县，秦髙渐离匿作于宋子，繋筑而，歌即此地。汉属巨鹿郡，后汉省之。元魏复置，属巨鹿郡。隋大业初，省入平棘。故城在今县北。”
《明一统志》卷3：“宋子城，在赵州东北二十里。秦髙渐离匿作于宋子，即此。汉为县，属巨鹿郡。隋省入平棘。”
嘉庆《清一统志》卷51：“宋子故城，在州北二十五里。本战国赵邑。……汉高祖八年，封功臣许*为侯邑。后为县，属臣鹿郡。高齐废，隋初，复置，属栾州。大业初，省入平棘。《史记正义》：宋子故城在州北三十里。”（第16册，第8页）
