隋义宁元年（617年）置，属凤林郡，武德元年（618年）属虢州，天宝元年（742年）属弘农郡，乾元元年（758年）复属虢州（1）。北宋熙宁四年（1071年）省为镇入虢略（2）。治今河南灵宝老城东南八十里（3）。
