唐天宝元年（742年）改桃林为灵宝，属陕郡，乾元元年（758年）属陕州，天祐元年（904年）属兴唐府，二年（905年）复属陕州（1）。宋、金同（2），蒙古至元三年（1266年）省入陕县（3）。治今河南灵宝东北老城（4）。
