隋大业四年（608年）移治，属颍川郡（1）。唐武德四年（621年）属许州，天宝元年（742年）属颍川郡，乾元元年（758年）复属许州，建中二年（781年）属溵州，贞元元年（785年）州废复属许州（2）。宋元丰三年（1080年）属颍昌府（3）。金仍属许州（4），元、明同（5）。清顺治元年（1644年）属开封府许州，雍正二年（1724年）属许州直隶州，十二年（1734年）属许州府，乾隆六年（1741年）复属许州直隶州，至1911年不改（6）。治今河南临颍（7）。
