  秦二世三年（前207年）置，属颍川郡，汉高帝五年（前202年）属韩国，六年（前201年）仍属颍川郡（1）。新莽天凤元年（14年）改名监颍（2）。治今河南临颍西北固厢乡城顶村（3）。
