秦始王二十六年（前221年）置，属衡山郡，汉高帝元年（前206年）属衡山国，五年（前202年）属淮南国，文帝六年（前174年）复属衡山国，元狩二年（前121年）属六安国（1），新莽天凤元年（14年）改名美丰（2）。治今河南固始东南张老埠乡南史河转折处西岸（3）。
