    隋开皇十六年（596年）置，属陈州，大业三年（607年）属淮阳郡（1）。唐武德元年（618年）或属陈州，四年（621年）属沈州，贞观元年（627年）属陈州，天宝元年（742年）属淮阳郡，乾元元年（758年）复属陈州，建中二年（781年）溵州治，兴元元年（784年）又属陈州（2）。五代同，宋建隆元年（960年）改名商水（3）。即今河南商水（4）。
