元至元十五年（1278年）升永昌州为永昌府，领永平县，属大理路①。明洪武十五年（1382年）地入明，仍置永昌府②。治永昌城，在今云南省保山市市区永昌镇③。洪武二十三年十二月（1391年1 月）省府，升金齿卫为金齿军民指挥使司，兼管原永昌府民户及辖地④。
