汉高祖六年（前201），设旬阳县，属汉中郡。后汉建武元年（25），省。（1）治所在今旬阳县北、洵河北。（2）

（1）、《汉书》卷28上地理志8上：“汉中郡，秦置。莽曰新成。属益州。户十万一千五百七十，口三十万六百一十四。县十二：西城，旬阳，南郑，褒中，房陵，安阳，成固，沔阳，锡、莽曰锡治，武陵，上庸，长利。”（中华书局，1962年，第1596页）。
《嘉庆重修一统志》：“洵陽縣……戰國楚郇陽邑。秦置洵陽縣，屬漢中郡。漢曰旬陽。後漢省。晉太康四年，復置曰郇陽，屬魏興郡。宋復曰旬陽。齊因之。西魏又曰洵陽，兼置洵陽郡。隋開皇初郡廢，屬西城郡。唐武德初於縣置洵州，七年州廢屬金州。宋因之。元省。明初復置，屬漢中府。萬厯二十四年屬興安州。本朝因之。乾隆四十七年屬興安府。”（《四部丛刊续编》史部，第15册）。
按：西汉设旬阳的时间无考，暂定为汉高祖统一全国之时。东汉时，旬阳省去的时间无考，暂定为其建国的光武元年。清一统志中记载秦设洵阳县，但是暂时无考，现旬阳县所做沿革中也仅提到秦朝在其境内设旬关。
