武德二年（619），分绵谷县通谷镇置金牛县，属褒州。武德八年（625），褒州废，属梁州。（1）治所在今宁强县北金牛驿。（2）

（1）、《旧唐书》卷39志19地理二：梁州兴元府“金牛，汉葭萌县地。武德二年，分绵谷县置，属褒州。八年，州废，属梁州。三泉，武德四年，分绵谷县置南安州，领三泉、嘉平二县。八年，废南安州及嘉平县，以三泉属利州。天宝元年，改属梁州，移治沙溪之东。”（中华书局，1975年，第1529页）。
