同光元年（923），改大年县为万年县。①

①《太平寰宇记》：“萬年縣，舊宣揚坊四十五鄉六十坊，今七鄉。本漢舊縣也，屬左馮翊，在今櫟陽二十五里櫟陽故城是也。<周地圖記>云:明帝二年，分長安、覇城及姚輿所置山北三縣地，始于長安城中置萬年縣，理八角街，已東属京兆尹，取舊漢縣名也。天和三年，廢山北縣。建德二年，又省覇城、杜城二縣，以三縣地併入萬年。隋開皇三年，遷都於龍首川，改萬年為大興，縣属雍州，仍移於宣陽坊東南隅置大興縣，葢取文帝初封國號以名城及縣也。唐武德元年九月，改大興為萬年。至總章元年，析置明堂縣，理永樂坊。至長安二年六月，廢明堂縣，復入萬年縣。天寳七年，改為咸寕縣。乾元元年，復為萬年縣。按縣門樓即宇文愷所造，高宗末太平公主出降，薛紹於此縣納缗席。初以縣門隘窄衆欲毁之，高宗勅曰萬年縣。門屋宇文愷所造，制作多竒，不得毁拆，仍以别地開之也。梁開平元年，改為大年縣。後唐同光元年，復舊名。",
