西晋中，约291年，改属西平郡。②

① 《汉书》卷28 下《地理志》8：“金城郡，昭帝始元六年置。莽曰西海。户三万八千四百七十，口十四万九千六百四十八。县十三：……临羌，西北至塞外，有西王母石室、仙海、盐池。北则湟水所出，东至允吾入河。西有须抵池，有弱水、昆仑山祠。莽曰盐羌。”（北京：中华书局，1962年，第1611页。）又，《嘉庆一统志》卷270《西宁府》二：“临羌故城，在西宁县西。汉置，属金城郡。”（《续修四部丛刊》，上海：商务印书馆，1934年。）又，傅林祥、郑宝恒著：《中国行政区划通史?中华民国卷》：“西宁市，民国三十四年11月行政院核准西宁县城区置，并于同月30日公布《青海省西宁市政筹备处组织规程》，治所即今青海西宁市城区。为青海省会。”（上海：复旦大学出版社，2007年8月，第425页。）
