秦前214年，置方渠县，属北地郡，①治所在今宁夏盐池县西南。② 
西汉23年，县废。③ 

注：
① 《汉书》卷28 下《地理志》8：“北地郡，秦置。莽曰威成。户六万四千四百六十一，口二十一万六百八十八。县十九：……方渠。”（北京：中华书局，1962年，第1616页。）按，置县具体时间不详，上级政区北地郡确知为秦郡，姑作秦朝时段中点前214年。
② 李吉甫：《元和郡县图志》卷4《关内道》四：“温池县，上，西北至州一百八十里。神龙五年置，县侧有盐池。定远废城，在州东北二百里，即汉北地郡方渠县之地，先天二年，郭元振以西城远阔，丰安势孤，中间千里无城，烽堠杳渺，故置此城，募有健兵五千五百人以镇之。其后信安王祎更筑羊马城，幅员十四里。”（北京：中华书局，1983年，第96页。）依《元和郡县图志》撰写体例，定远废城，当在温池县境，《中国历史地名辞典》：“温池县，唐神龙时置，治所在今宁夏盐池县西南。”（南昌：江西教育出版社，1988年，第875页。）故方渠县治所姑作今宁夏盐池县西南。
