唐神龙元年（705），置温池县，属灵州都督府，治所在今宁夏盐池县西南。①
974年，县废。②

② 乐史：《太平寰宇记》卷36《关西道》12：“灵州，灵武郡。今理回乐县。……元领县六。今一：回乐。五县废：怀远，灵武，保静，温池，鸣沙。今领镇七管蕃户：清远，昌化，保安，保静，临河，怀远，定远。”（北京：中华书局，2007年，第760页。）据此可知，《太平寰宇记》撰著时期，灵州下除回乐县外，其余诸县均已废为镇。《太平寰宇记》中疆域政区沿革以北宋雍熙4年（987）为断，姑取北宋开国916年至987年中点974年为县废之年。",
