北魏太平真君七年（446 ）置，同年于城置澄城郡。①隋开皇三年（583 ）属同州。②后梁开平元年（907 ）属河中府。后唐同光三年（925），属同州。③宋、金、元、明因之。清雍正十年属同州府。④治今澄城县城。⑤
