唐贞观八年（634 年），于洪和城置美相县，属洮州。天宝中（以748 年为准）废入临潭县①。治所在今甘肃省临潭县东新城乡②。

①《太平寰宇记》卷154《陇右道5》洮州临潭县条“临潭县，七乡，本浑谷之镇，谓之洪和城。后周改为美相县，属洮州。唐贞观四年移洮州理于此。五年置临潭县，属于旭州。八年废旭州，县来属。其年复移还洮阳城，今州治也。仍旧于洪和县置美相县，隶洮州。天宝中废美相并入”。《旧唐书》卷40《地理志三》陇右道八临潭条：“秦、汉时羌地，本吐谷浑之镇，谓之洪和城。后周攻得之，改为美相县，属洮州。贞观四年洮州理于此。置临潭县，属旭州。八年，废旭州，来属。其年移理洮阳城，今州治也，仍于旧洪和城置美相县，隶洮州。天宝中废美相并入”。中华书局1975 年版，第1636 页。
