唐贞观十七年（643年）迁治太清镇置。治所即今湖北秭归县东南长江南岸茅坪镇。属归州。（1）天授二年（691年）又迁治夔子城。（2）

（1）《旧唐书》卷40《地理志二•山南东道》归州兴山县：“旧治高阳城，贞观十七年，移治太清镇。”（北京，中华书局，1975年，5册，1555页）《新唐书》卷四十《地理志四•山南道》归州秭归县：“东南八十五里有太清镇城。”（北京，中华书局，1975年，4册，1028页）又兴山县地方志编纂委员会《兴山县志》“唐贞观十七年，县城迁往太清镇。太清镇在秭归县茅坪，三国时称太清镇。”（北京，中国山峡出版社，1997年，19页）按：唐秭归县即今县。茅坪镇在今秭归县东南七十余里长江南岸，（《湖北省地图册》，湖北省测绘局，1990年，127——128页）当是。
