北宋熙宁五年（1072年）改乾德县置。属襄州。（1）治所在今湖北老河口市西北、汉水北岸“乾德故城”。（2）元祐元年（1086年）复名乾德县。（3）

（2）《太平寰宇记》卷145《山南东道四》光化军：“理乾德县。本襄州之阴城县地，后废为镇。故城在今穀城县北。”（金陵书局，光绪八年刊本，26册，11页）清恩联修《襄阳府志》（二）卷5《舆地志•古迹》光化县：阴县故城在县西。汉置县，西魏改阴城，唐省。宋乾德二年于其地置乾德县。（《中国方志丛书》，台湾成文出版社，据光绪十一年刊本影印，362册，461页）清光绪二十七年《湖北舆地图》之《光化县舆图》在县西北汉水北岸有乾德故城。据牛汉平《清代政区沿革综表•湖北省总表》，襄阳府光化县在今湖北省光化县东北光化镇。（北京，中国地图出版社，1990年，237页）又宋穀城县，即今湖北谷城县。按：光化县现改为老河口市，其东北即光化镇。则故治在今湖北老河口市西北、汉水北岸，其地正在穀城县北。光化县本乾德县，也当治此。
（3）《宋史》卷85《地理志一•京西南路》光化军：“熙宁五年（1072年），废军，改乾德为光化县，隶襄州。元祐初，复为军。县一，乾德。”（北京，中华书局，1977年，7册，2114页）按：姑作元祐元年（1086年）复改名为乾德县。",
