战国秦昭襄王二十九年（前278年）置。属南郡。秦同。（1）治所在今湖北宜城县东北、汉水北岸。（2）西汉高祖元年（前206年）属临江国，五年（公元前202年）复属南郡。（3）十二年（前195年）改置为侯国。（4）

（2）《水经•沔水注》：“沔水又南与疎水合，水出中庐县西南，东流至邔县北界，东入沔水，谓之疎口也。”守敬按：“在今宜城县东北。”（《水经注疏》，南京，江苏古籍出版社，1989年，下册，2388、2389、2390、2391页）《元和郡县图志》卷21《山南道•襄州》宜城县：“本汉邔县地也。城东临汉江，古谚曰‘邔无东’，言其东逼汉江，其地短促也。”（北京，中华书局，1983年，上册，531页）顾祖禹《读史方舆纪要》卷79《湖广五•襄阳府》宜城县鄢下邔城曰：“在县北五十里。”（北京，中华书局，1955年，4册，3382页）清《嘉庆一统志》卷347《襄阳府•古迹》邔县故城：“在宜城县东北。”（《四部丛刊续编》，商务印书馆，1934年，128册，2页）据牛汉平《清代政区沿革综表•湖北省总表》，襄阳府宜城县即今湖北宜城县。（北京，中国地图出版社，1990年，237页）按：古汉水较今为东，故邔县反在今汉水之北。姑作治在今湖北宜城县东北、汉水北岸。
（3）《汉书》卷28上《地理志上》南郡：“秦置，高帝元年更为临江郡，五年复故。”领有邔县。（北京，中华书局，1962年，6册，1566页）周振鹤《西汉政区地理》：南郡亦为秦郡，项羽分封诸侯时以之同长沙、黔中两郡置为临江国。高帝五年（公元前202年）临江国除，南郡复故。（北京，人民出版社，1987年，134页）当作汉高祖元年（前206年）属临江国，五年（公元前202年）复属南郡。
