南宋绍兴六年（1136年）复置。属无为军。十一年（1141年）属庐州。十二年（1142年）复属无为军。①故治即今安徽巢湖市治。②南宋景定三年（1262年）升巢县为镇巢军。③
①《宋史》卷88《地理志四》：“无为军。同下州。太平兴国三年以庐州巢县无为镇建为军，以巢、庐江二县来属。建炎二年，入于金，寻复。景定三年，升巢县为镇巢军。”“巢县，望。至道二年，移治郭下。绍兴五年废，六年复。十一年，隶庐州，十二年，复为属。景定三年升军，属沿江制置使司。”（第7册，2185页）
②《清嘉庆一统志》第41册，卷123《庐州府二古迹》：“蕲县故城，在今巢县。晋侨置南谯郡，治山又桑县，又置蕲县属焉。隋改蕲为襄安县。唐又襄安为巢县。《旧志》：有谯郡城，在县东南二十里。今为南谯郡。”确址文献无明确记载。今作即今巢湖市（1983年改巢县为巢湖市）。《清嘉庆一统志》第41册，卷122《庐州府一学校》：“巢县学，在县治西。明洪武初因宋故址建。”县学当在县城内。
