南宋恭宗德祐元年（1275年）桐城县治移治今安徽枞阳县治。属安庆府。元至元十四年（1277年）还旧治，即今安徽桐城市治。①
①《读史方舆纪要》卷26安庆府桐城县枞阳镇：“《城邑考》：“宋末桐阳（城）县移治枞阳镇。后又迁池之李阳河，元始还旧治。”（第2册，1222页）《清嘉庆一统志》第36册，卷110《安庆府二古迹》：“《县志》：宋末移桐城县治枞阳镇。后又移治池州之李阳河。元时始还旧治。”“旧治”当即指唐宋桐城县治，即今桐城县治也。道光七年《桐城续修县志》卷4《营建志》：“城郭，县旧有城，即隋同安县故址。……历宋元城经两徙，故城倾圯。明万历丙子，知县曲周陈于偕……建造砖城，……今仍其旧。”可知隋后之桐城县治即今治也。然《清统志》引《县志》谓宋末移治枞阳镇，后又移治池州之李阳河。两次迁治具体年代均不详。据《续资治通鉴》卷181宋恭宗德祐元年（1275年）正月“癸酉朔，元军入黄州”，“癸未，元兵攻蕲州，知州管景模以城降。”（第10册，4937页。中华书局）今作该年南移治枞阳镇。又“二月……元兵攻池州，知州王起宗遁去，……元游骑至李阳河，都统张林屡讽之降。”（4941页）是此时李阳河尚未为桐城县治。疑迁治江南李阳河，恐为战时暂时之举，为时甚短，故史阙载。该年江淮间地全入元军，次年元至元十四年（1277年）改安庆府为路，即以此年还治桐城旧址。",
