唐武德五年（622年）置，属越州（1）。治所即今广西合浦县北石湾镇（2）。贞观十二年（638年）废（3）。

（1），《旧唐书》卷41?岭南道?廉州：“隋合浦郡。武德五年，置越州，领合浦、安昌、高城、大廉、大都五县。贞观六年置珠池。其年，改大都为白州。八年，改越州为廉州。十年，废姜州，以封山、东罗、蔡龙三县来属。十二年，废安昌、珠池二县入合浦，废高城入蔡龙。”（北京，中华书局，1975年，5册，1759页）。
（2），《读史方舆纪要》卷104?广东?廉州府?合浦县；“东南有安昌废县，唐武德五年置，属越州，贞观十二年省入合浦县。”（北京，中华书局，1955年，5册，4310页）。《嘉庆一统志》卷450?廉州府?古迹：“安昌故城，在合浦县北。…废于梁陈时。”（《四部丛刊续编》，商务印书馆，1934年，168册）。按其并入合浦县方位分析，姑定武桑县于今合浦县北石湾镇。
