宋咸平元年（998年）复置，为廉州治（1）。治所即今广西合浦县（2）。元至元十七年（1280年）为廉州路治（3）。明洪武元年（1368年）为廉州府治，七年（1374年）十一月降府为州，合浦县省（4）。

（1），《舆地纪胜》卷120?广南西路?廉州：合浦县，倚郭。太平兴国八年废（廉州）为太平军，省合浦入石康。咸平元年，复置廉州及合浦县。（北京，中华书局，1992年，4册，3487页）。
（2），《读史方舆纪要》卷104?广东?廉州府?合浦县；“廉州故城，在府东北七十五里蓬莱乡。唐时州治此。志云，今治东十里有青牛城，古越州城也。…《南齐志》越州治临漳郡。…梁废临漳郡，以越州治合浦郡。隋废郡，仍为越州治，…唐武德四年又为越州，…其治皆在蓬莱乡。宋开宝五年，移廉州治于长沙场。太平兴国八年废州，改置太平军于海门镇，其地在今治西南三十五里。咸平初，复置廉州于廉江东岸，即今治也。《城邑考》，州城宋元祐中创筑土城。”（北京，中华书局，1955年，5册，4292页）。
