五代梁开平三年（909年）迁置，为雷州治（1）。治所即今广东省海康县南南兴镇（2）。五代南汉乾亨元年（917年）复迁今海康县（3）。

（1），《太平寰宇记》卷169?雷州?海康县：“隋废（南合）州，置海康县。朱梁开平三年，曾移州于惊雷江源，至刘氏伪命日，却归海康。”（金陵书局，光绪八年刊本，30册）。
（2），宣统元年《广东地舆全图》海康县图：海康县东南有惊雷水。其源头有南兴市。（台湾，成文出版社《中国方志丛书》第108号）。今据此作朱梁开平三年，迁州县治于广东省海康县南兴市。南汉乾亨元年迁还故址。
